Achievable & Livable

Am I writing this just five hours before I usually send out this newsletter? Why, yes I am.

For those of you new to my chaos, this month was filled with a move across statelines, crossing one timezone, and paying for it all out of pocket in hopes my job will pay me back.

In this time I was able to read a few books (audio books) which I needed for downtime through the chaos of packing, moving, and then unpacking. But I also had to put a few things on hold, like Flash Fiction Live.

For anyone keeping tabs on that, To keep with my average of editing 2 flashes a week to help achieve my new year's resolution 104 flashes edited in a year, I should have 46 complete where as I only have 34 done.

The other thing that fell behind, but still got done, is this newsletter.

All in all, I feel like I prioritized myself and my family pretty well this month. I'm not short on things to do and realizing they'll eventually get done, such as my TBR, helps me not feel I have to rush to get them through.

The goals were flexible, thus allowing me to live instead of just focusing on achieving those goals.

I hope your goals are livable and not only achievable.

"The baker divided the dough into equal parts before placing it into loaf pans."

"She divided the dough into equal parts before placing it into loaf pans and covering them in plastic to rise. "

This story definitely needed a little extra. In the first line I was trying to convey a correlation between yeast helping dough rise to the baker one day rising to be with their friend who passed away. The second line helped me set up a reference to a veil (plastic) between the world of the living and the afterlife. That definitely felt a bit stronger after that small change.

Setting the Stage

I am someone whose emotions are very much influenced by the space I preside in.

Therefore the chaos of moving (boxes, lack of furniture, finding new homes for knickknacks) sends my anxiety to a whole new level.

Luckily, my husband knows this and we immediately made sure bed were set up for the first night in our new place. From there, I took on packing one box at a time.

Now, I have my little serenity spaces. My desk still needs some work, but we got the bones there.

Enjoy the new bookshelf and my desk (work in progress).

Time Management

As you can see from my desk photo I have two laptops and two monitors. One set is for work and one is for writing/sprints.

Sprints really have helped me not just through moving, but also with focusing on work. Giving myself a 25 minutes of clear work time has decreased my phone distractions and increased my hydration.

After each sprint, I drink some water, as well as any time I glance at the clock I take a sip. That has helped me stay on track with the time stamps my water bottle has stamped on the side.

Drinking a mass of water at once isn't giving your body hydration, but staggering your intake of water, it keeps you satiated.

So, little sprints are helping my productivity as well.

What's Next?

For those new to writing or just enjoyers of peaking behind the author's curtain, July is the next Camp NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month, the is usually held in November). Camp gives participants a chance to set their own goal for the month, instead of the 50,000 word goal in November.

Thus, June is preparation. filled with relays (Story Tellers'Hearth) and the Authortube Writing Conference.

I get to be apart of both!

Story Tellers' Hearth: 17 June at 3pm Eastern.

AWC: 25 June at 12pm Eastern
